Whose That Guy

As a first time mom I want to start yearly holiday traditions with my family. Since our babe is only 7 months old I felt as though some traditions I could skip this year because 1) he won't know and 2) he is just too little to understand. Once tradition we did do, because photographs are involved and we can't not have one his first year, was to go visit Santa.

So last Monday we made the trek to Bass Pro Shop (sorry I was NOT going to see the mall Santa) to see the big guy. In our minds a Monday afternoon seemed perfect, all the kids would be in school so there should be no line. Well, we were pleasantly surprised to see a packed parking lot and a decent size Santa line. Thankfully it moved rather quickly and about 15-20 minutes of keeping the babe happy, it was finally his time to meet Santa.

Waiting patiently in line

Confused as ever

Wyatt did a great job sitting on Santa's lap. He definitely was confused as to who the big jolly guy was, which is apparent by the expression on his face. I'm so glad we have this years picture and I look forward to keeping this tradition going with all of our children. I'm very much looking froward to next year, when he understands a little bit more.

TGIF

Yea, it's Friday! Its been a nice low key week with me and my little. We spent a few days at home, baked some cookies, had a play date, did a little shopping, and snuggled a little bit too. This weekend we have a small friends holiday get together and then we'll be prepping for Christmas. The next few days should be busy, but fun. Hope you have a great weekend!

My Wishlist

Every year I'm always asked by family members what I want for Christmas, so if I had to make a list for myself this is what would be on it...

And these boots (I can't get the picture to save correctly)

Nothing too fancy or too expensive, just things that I 'want' but would probably not buy myself.

I know this is cliche but as long as we spend the holiday together as a family I will be one happy momma. It's going to be especially fun this year as I will get to experience the holidays through my own child's eyes, which I hear is the greatest!

7 Month Old Wishlist

As a first time parent I'm super excited to be celebrating the holidays with my little one. However, I need to realize he is only 7 months old and has no idea what's going on. I've tried to restrain myself from buying him EVERYTHING and decided to try and keep our gifts to him to a minimum because honestly the babe only wants to play with electronics (i.e. phones, remotes, etc) and boxes. So he could really care less about what Santa is bringing him for Christmas this year. And like I said he is only 7 months old, he doesn't need much.

He is also getting a few books, an ornament, sippy cups, and baby toothbrush in his stocking, as well as a new outfit under the tree. Can't wait to celebrate with our little guy this year. Hopefully he will be more interested in his presents than the wrapping paper and boxes.

Oh Christmas Tree

I don't normally do this but I put up our Christmas decorations BEFORE Thanksgiving. Usually the decorations are pulled out and put up the weekend after Thanksgiving, but since it was so late this year and my mom was here to help, they ended up coming out early. Plus, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Christmas time and with all the work you put into decorating why not enjoy it as long as possible. We did however wait to get our Christmas tree until after Thanksgiving. Here is a glimpse into 2013 our holiday decorations...

He's not a decoration but he sure is cute...

Wyatt - Seven Months

I feel like this month Wyatt has changed so much, reaching many new milestones and becoming less of a baby. I cannot get over the fact that he has been here for 7 months already. Crazy!

Stats:
No appointment this month, but I don't feel like he's changed much in height and weight since last month.

Sleep:
We're still working on this. Some days are better than others and we will leave it at that. Hopefully next month I'll have more exciting 'sleep' news to report!

Eating:
Wyatt has been eating solid foods at breakfast, lunch and dinner and continues to nurse about 5-6 times a day. He hasn't been a picky eater, except for the Gerber mixed vegetables. He doesn't like those at all. We have also been giving him some snacks throughout the day (i.e. yogurt melts and puffs).

Diapering:
We are still cloth diapering and loving it. In the beginning using them added another item on my 'To Do' list, but I'm glad we've stuck with them because it's become so much easier and less of a chore. He is still wearing disposables at night, Pamper size three, because he is a heavy wetter and I know his cloth diapers would not hold until morning. I do think that once I'm done using the size three diapers I have we will be moving up to size four, since we've had a few nights where he has peed out of his diaper.

Clothes:

He is wearing all 9 and 12 month clothing. Due to his bulky cloth diapers he is mostly wearing 12 month pants and sometimes I'll stick him in 12-18 month pants.

In celebration of the holiday season I got him his first pair of monogrammed PJs, which I absolutely love, and he also got an adorable reindeer onesie.

Social:
This month his Gamma, from Georgia, came to visit. She was a huge help in getting our dinning room repainted and decorating the house for the holidays. We also did a little shopping while she was here and she spent lots of quality time with her grandson. I think Wyatt could have cared less about me that week, especially since she would rock him to sleep everyday (THANKS MOM!).

We also celebrated Thanksgiving with his other grandparents. They came down and spent a couple days and Wyatt loved the attention he got.

Highlights & Milestones:
Wyatt cut his 5th tooth (on top). He has done really well teething and only gets slight fevers, rosy cheeks and clingy at nighttime. This usually only lasts one day, when the tooth is cutting through the gum, but thankfully his personality stays the same.

Wyatt has officially started army crawling/pulling himself around. He loves to go after cellphones, remotes and the Christmas presents under our tree. He has also started to go after Gunnar when we're hanging out in his room. Wyatt does get up in the crawling position and rock back-and-forth a lot but he still hasn't actually figured out how to crawl, thank goodness! I'm not ready because I know he's going to be into EVERYTHING.

Wyatt has gotten really good at sitting up and can do so for extended periods of time. He still has the occasional fall, but I think it's safe to say he can sit, even though he still prefers to play on his belly.

Boo

So I know I just posted about Thanksgiving but since I'm trying to play catch up I don't want to forget Wyatt's first Halloween. The Sunday before Halloween Wyatt and I met some of our friends and their children at a nearby pumpkin farm to enjoy some of the fall festivities.

 On the hayride
Ready to see the aniamls and get some apple cider
Me and my little

We ended up leaving the day after our pumpkin farm fun and headed south to my sisters house. While there we attended a trunk-or-treat, went to another pumpkin farm, and went trick-or-treating. I'd say he was able to experience all that fall time and Halloween has to offer.

Giving Thanks

This year we spent our Thanksgiving at home. With all of our traveling in September and October we had planned to just stay home for the holidays this year. Wyatt's Scranton grandparents did come down to spend the holiday with us and because of his daddy's work schedule we ended up celebrating a day early.

Unfortunately we ended up having our turkey dinner pretty late and Wyatt was ready for bed by the time we actually sat down to dinner. Side Note: Wyatt, like most kids, is a clock and as soon as its his bedtime he knows and he is READY to go to sleep. The eye rubbing, whining/crying begin immediately at 8pm if he's not already in bed. Anyways, dinner was delicious, the turkey turned out great and the company was great too. Overall I would say we had a very successful turkey day!

Wyatt was ready for bed!

Hello.

I've spent some time trying to write monthly posts about the littlest Marion, Wyatt. He has been our biggest DIY project to date and the best addition to our family. All of 2013 has been spent preparing, welcoming, and now raising our sweet boy.

I'm working on some posts about his birthday and my pregnancy, so once those are ready I'll post links since I'm back dating them (I want them to be in order).

In the meantime here are the links for the first six monthly posts I've written about our little. Enjoy!

Wyatt - Six Months

First off, how is he already six months old. My baby is growing up and changing everyday. Pretty soon I won't be able to call him my baby anymore.

Stats:
At his six month appointment he was 18lbs and 27.25 inches long. No change in his large head, but his doctor said that overall he looked perfect. Mommy and daddy agree!

Sleep:
We're still working on getting him to take better naps and have longer sleep periods at night. At his  six appointment the doctor suggested he eat more food during the day to try and fill up his belly, since at six months old he should be able to sleep for a 6-8 hour stretch at night. We're lucky if we get 4 hours before he wakes. I'm still not giving up and am trying to be as consistent with him as possible. My baby will sleep!

Eating:
Wyatt has been eating solid foods at dinner time and nursing throughout the rest of the day. So far he has ate green beans, carrots, sweet potatoes, pears, peaches, plums, bananas, apples and blueberries. We have also given him pieces of yogurt melts, waffles and tortillas. Usually if we're eating something that can be broken into a small piece for him we give him some to try. So far he's been a really good eater and hasn't refused anything.

He's still nursing in the middle of the night but only once (even though he gets up multiple times).

Diapering:
We are cloth diapering and loving it. He is still wearing disposables at night, Pamper size three, because he is a heavy wetter and i know his cloth diapers would not hold until morning. The cloth diapers are becoming less bulky on him, since he's a growing boy! My stash as stayed the same except I did purchase a Rumparooz diaper to add to our collection.

Clothes:
I've packed away all of his 6 month clothing and washed all of his 9 month and 6-12 month clothing. He is growing like a weed and has pretty much stayed on target with his clothing sizes. I will need to pick up some more 12 month winter clothing, since I know he'll be into that size before warmer weather comes.

Social:
Mommy and Wyatt took a road trip to North Carolina to spend a week with Aunt Jess, Mabry and Harlow. He also got to meet his Uncle Dan (aka Uncle Funky) for the first time. We had a great week at Aunt Jess's house helping her do last minute things before Uncle Dan came home from deployment.

Wyatt did a stellar job in the car to and from North Carolina. It also helped that I left at 3am on my way there and 4am on the way back. He slept for the majority of the ride and barely fussed at all.

Wyatt is a very social little boy who loves to flirt with whom ever is giving him attention. He definitely knows mommy and daddy, but will let anyone hold him. He is very curious about everything that is going on, which I attribute to his bad sleeping habits. I believe he thinks he might miss out if he goes to sleep :)

Wyatt also has really started to notice Gunnar, our dog. He gets very excited when he sees him and is always reaching out to touch him. Gunnar is going to be in for it once Wyatt is crawling (he is going to be after him)!

Highlights & Milestones:
Wyatt cut his first tooth, bottom left. Then while in North Carolina he cut his second tooth, bottom right. His cheesy smile is pretty adorable, which helps for when he bites mommy while nursing. Good thing he's cute, because biting hurts!

Wyatt is still not crawling (thank goodness) but he does get around with rolling. He has gotten really good rolling both ways and he can also turn himself on his belly. We've baby proofed as much of the family room as we can, and have put up some baby gates to keep him contained. It's only a matter of time until he's really on the move.

We're also working on sitting up. His big head doesn't help but he does pretty well. He also will now sit in the front of a shopping cart for a short period of time before getting upset or falling over (even though he's buckled).

Wyatt - Five Months

Stats:
Wyatt did not have a doctors appointment this month, but I believe he is probably around 17lbs. He has all the cute baby rolls, especially on his thighs, so its safe to say he's healthy.

Sleep:
Ugh, I wish I could say he's doing better in this department, but that would be a lie. I think this month we had our worst night yet and I got up no less than ten times with him. I'm really trying but he just doesn't want to sleep. Whenever I see he's tired I put him directly in his crib. There are some days, far and few between, that he will nap but there just needs to be more because by dinner time he's usually done for the day! He has no issues being put down for his 8 o'clock bedtime, which is great, but the rest of the day is usually a toss up. I've said it before and will continue to say it, we will get this figured out because my baby will sleep!

Eating:
Wyatt has shown a lot of interest in people eating/drinking by always reaching for what they have and  mimicking us eat/drink. This month we started him on some rice cereal and then we introduced a lot of the food that I had previously made (green beans, carrots, pears, peaches, plums, sweet potatoes, etc). So far he hasn't turned away anything, which is great. I really think we have a great eater on our hands. He still nurses about six times a day and once during the night (even though he gets up more than once).

Diapering:
We are cloth diapering and loving it. He is still wearing disposables, Pampers size three, at night and when we travel. The cloth diapers are becoming less bulky on him, since he's a growing boy!

Clothes:
He is wearing all 6 month clothing. It has been a little difficult since most of his 6 month clothing is for cooler weather, and this month we spent almost two weeks down south where the temperatures were still in the 80s.

Social:
We spent almost two weeks away between North Carolina and Georgia. Wyatt got to visit his Gamma and Gampas house for the first time. He was a very good traveler for as much time as we spent in the car.

Highlights & Milestones:
Wyatt is really mastering rolling over and grabbing on to/holding objects. He has become very aware of what his mommy and daddy are doing and has even started to somewhat recognize his name. He is a pretty happy baby (when he's not tired) and loves to 'talk'. He is also a drooling machine and loves to put everything into his mouth (what baby doesn't at this age). We have also started to practice sitting up. The doctor said it might be a little more difficult for him due to his larger noggin, but we're working on it.

Wyatt - Four Months

Stats:
At his four month appointment he was 16lb 3oz and 25 inches long. His head is still 'off the charts' and this time mommy and daddy also got their heads measured just so we can keep track. He also got shots this month and did much better than last time. His cries were still heart breaking but he did calm down a little easier.

Sleep:
Sleep...Wyatt is not a very good sleeper. He does well going down at nighttime, which is around 9pm, but he gets up numerous times each night. And naps, the child DOES not like to nap. He usually will take a 30-45 minute nap in the morning and then in the afternoon he struggles to go down. The boy gets very tired and grumpy but will try his hardest to not fall asleep. I'm always reassuring him that he won't miss out on anything and that I will be here when he wakes. If only reasoning with a four month old was easy! I'm not giving up hope...

Eating:
He is still a very efficient eater, which is great when it's the middle of the night. He still eats every two and a half hours during the day and about every four to five at night. I let him tell me at night when he's hungry but during the day I try to keep it at every two and a half. He still spits up quiet a bit. Some days are worse than others, but the doctors don't seem concerned.

Diapering:
We currently are using Pampers size two diapers, but think that he'll be moving to a size three (we need the height of the diaper) once we're done with what we have. I'm still cloth diapering during the day and using disposables only at night and when we travel. Cloth diapering is going extremely well and I'm very happy we made the decision to just go for it!

Clothes:
He is still wearing 3-6 month clothing, but I'm still putting him in larger pants due to his bulky cloth diapers. The weather has been so unpredictable that some days its in the 80s and the next in the 60s. He doesn't have much summer clothing in 3-6 month sizes, so usually on the warmer days he is just in a onesie.

Social:
This month we had some play dates and mommy and daddy had two weddings, two weekends in a row. Thankfully both weddings weren't far from Grandpa Donovan and Omas house so they watched Wyatt while we attended the weddings. We also had a few play dates but tried to enjoy the last weeks of summer and stay around home since September had us traveling for most of the month.

Highlights:
Mommy started making Wyatt's baby food, getting all the vegetables and fruit from local farmers markets. Wyatt's first foods that were made included: green beans, carrots, squash, sweet potatoes, peaches, pears, and plums.

Wyatt - Three Months

Stats:
This month we did not have any doctor appointments, which was nice. He has continued to grow in both weight and height and looks pretty perfect to his parents.

Sleep:
He is officially sleeping in his crib at night time and mommy is trying her hardest to get him to take naps in there too. He usually takes better naps in his swing, but we're not giving up hope. There were a couple of nights that he slept 6-8 hour stretches, which was so nice for mommy and daddy. However, we're back to getting up a few times each night. He does extremely well when we put him to bed between 9pm-10pm.

Eating:
He is still a very efficient eater, which is great when it's the middle of the night. He still eats every two and a half hours during the day and about every four to five at night. I let him tell me at night when he's hungry but during the day I try to keep it at every two and a half. Wyatt still spits up...no changes there.

Diapering:
We began using cloth diapers this month and haven't looked back. I do use disposables at nighttime and if we travel I plan to use them too. Our stash of cloth diapers last us two days, so I wash every other day which isn't too bad. Most of our cloth diapers are BumGenious 4.0 but we do have a couple Kawaii diapers. I have only had a few leeks, but overall am really glad to be using cloth. It makes me feel good to see them getting reused again and again.

Clothes:
He now wearing 3-6 month clothing. The trouble that I'm having is with his bottoms not having enough room for his bulky cloth diapers. Poor kid looks like he has quite the load in his pants, so I've been sizing up for his bottoms to give him the most room possible. Sometimes its just easier to put him in a onesie and call it a day. That will have to change once the weather gets colder, but until then my child is usually pant less.

Social:
His Aunt Jess and cousins Mabry and Harlow came and stayed with us for a week, since Sven and I were in a wedding. Aunt Jess, Aunt Bailey, and cousins Mabry and Harlow did a great job watching Wyatt for us while we were busy with wedding festivities. It appears that the adults only started to get a little kid crazy when I got a text message picture of Wyatt in a dress. I'll wait to show that picture, when the time is right. It is pretty darn funny and got a good laugh from both his mommy and daddy.

Highlights & Milestones:
We have had a few more play dates this month with some highschool/college friends and their kids. Wyatt is trying really hard to roll from his back to his tummy. He is still very good when we take him out of the house into social environments. He usually is so busy taking everything in that he hardly fusses. We're still trying to find a carrier that he likes, since the Ergo usually upsets him because he's inward facing. We made another trip to Scranton so that daddy could see one of his old highschool friends. Mommy and daddy also celebrated their second anniversary and Aunt Kristie watched Wyatt so we could go to dinner to celebrate.

Wyatt - Two Months

Stats:
At his two month appointment he was 12lb 13oz and 23.25 inches long, putting him in the 50th percentiles for both. His head is still 'off the charts' but it has been since birth, so they said there should be no concern. Poor baby comes by it naturally since both his momma and daddy have big heads. He also got shots this month and the poor thing did not take them well at all. The sounds that he made broke both mommy and daddy's hearts. He was pretty hard to console but once he did settle down he fell right to sleep. It wasn't until that evening when he once again got extremely upset, needless to say mommy and Wyatt sleep on the couch together so we could all get some sleep.

Sleep:
He sleeps about two hour stretches during the day and about four to five hour stretches at night. We usually put him down for bed around 10/10:30pm. His night time feedings and diaper changes take about 20 minutes total and he still goes back to sleep rather easily. He slept in his pack and play next to our bed for part of the month and then we transitioned him to his crib. I think he is much more comfortable sleeping in his crib and I sleep a little better not hearing every move he makes. His favorite place to nap throughout the day is his swing (I cannot get the boy to nap in his crib).

Eating:
He is still a very efficient eater, which is great when it's the middle of the night. He still eats every two and a half hours during the day and about every four to five at night. I let him tell me at night when he's hungry but during the day I try to keep it at every two and a half. Wyatt also likes to spit up. It doesn't seem to upset or bother him. It only creates a lot more laundry due to numerous outfit and blanket changes each day. We mentioned it to his doctor at his appointment, but they don't seem concerned since he's gaining weight and large percentage of babies do spit up. I do hear from other mommies that it will just stop one day, so here's to hoping that that day will come soon!

Diapering:
We currently are using Pampers size one diapers, but think that he'll be moving to a size two (we need the height of the diaper) once we're done with what we have. I'm planning to start cloth diapering soon, just need to get the courage to do so!

Clothes:
He is still wearing 0-3 month clothing and pretty much has been from the beginning.

Social:
Wyatt took his first long road trip to North Carolina to visit his Aunt Jess and cousins Mabry and Harlow. Mommy was very stressed that we would get caught in I-95 traffic (because we usually do), however the stars must have aligned because we didn't get caught in any standstill traffic. He did good for the majority of the car ride both ways, which was great for being only six weeks old! His Grandpa Donovan and Oma made many trips from Scranton to visit him. He also met some more of mommy and daddy's friends.

Highlights & Milestones:
Wyatt took his first trip to IKEA in Philadelphia where we met up with his Grandpa Donovan and Oma. He also had his first play date with the TMI wives and their kids.

Wyatt has started to smile a lot, become more alert and has noticed his hands. He loves his swing and his playmat and when we're outside we like to put him in his bouncy seat.

Wyatt - One Month

Stats:
At his one month appointment Wyatt was 10lb 9oz and 22.25 inches long, putting him in the 50th percentiles for both. His head is still 'off the charts' but it has been since birth, so they said there should be no concern. Poor baby comes by it naturally since both his momma and daddy have big heads.

Sleep:
He sleeps about two to three hour stretches during the day and about three hour stretches at night. We usually put him down for bed around 10/10:30pm. His night time feedings and diaper changes take about 30 minutes total and then he goes back to bed rather easily. He sleeps in his pack and play next to our bed, so we hear all of his noises, which make it hard to get a really good night of sleep (and the fact we get up every two-three hours). His favorite place to nap during the day is his swing.

Eating:
Wyatt is very efficient at nursing, which is great when it's the middle of the night. He still eats every two hours during the day and about every two to three at night. I let him tell me at night when he's hungry but during the day I try to keep it at every two.

Diapering:
We're currently using Pampers newborn diapers, but think that he'll be moving to a size one once we're done with what we have. I also have all of my cloth diapers and figured I will start to use them once I get a good routine down for the two of us. No need to add anything extra to my 'To Do' list right now!

Clothes:
He is wearing 0-3 month clothing and pretty much has been from the beginning. All of the newborn cloths my sister gave me pretty much only fit for a couple of days. The weather has been a little tricky since we've had some cold days, followed by warm ones and I want to make sure he's dressed properly (not too hot, not too cold). We've been pretty much rotating through the newborn gowns that we have, since they are the easiest for diaper changes, especially at night time.

Social:
Wyatt had lots of visitors his first month. He met both sides of grandparents, Aunt Jess, cousins Mabry and Harlow, Aunt Martina, Auntie's Bailey, Krisite, Brandy and Tasha, Uncle's Zach, David and Richard and many of mommy and daddy's friends. He also got to meet his Great Oma and Great Aunt from Germany. They came to our house for a night and then we actually went up to Scranton for a couple more nights to spend some more time with them before they went back home.

Highlights & Milestones:
Wyatt took his first trip to Scranton where we stayed for two nights. He did really well in the car, sleeping the entire time we drove (2.5 hours each way). Daddy had to go away for a bachelor party so mommy and Wyatt spent the weekend together. I was a little anxious about it, but Wyatt was very good to me all weekend! We also celebrated daddy's 31st birthday.

Wyatt lost all the hair on top (not the sides) of his little head. Poor baby looks like a little old man. It happened right before he met his Great Oma and Great Aunt from Germany.

It was a very busy month with lots of helpers and visitors. We loved that Wyatt was able to meet so many people his first month, and mommy and daddy loved showing off their little man.

Waiting For Baby

I had planned that my last day of work before starting maternity leave would be May 3rd. I figured this would give me a few days off before my due date to relax and do any last minute things. Given my family's history I thought for sure he would arrive at the end of April, so once I made it to my last day of work I was afraid this child was never coming and that I would spend the first few weeks of maternity leave at home, miserable and swollen.

My sister, being the saint that she is, had already planned to come to PA in May and stay until Wyatt made his debut. She ended up coming a week earlier than planned and stayed busy while I was at work cooking, cleaning, running errands, and painting a piece of furniture for our dinning room.

My first day of maternity leave we worked on a few last minute decorations for the nursery, trying to stay busy and not dwell on the fact that he wasn't here. Tuesday evening, May 7th, I got a huge burst of energy and did some quick night time walking with Jessica. I had also done some squats and treadmill walking earlier in the day (Jessica was very motivated to keep me moving so she could meet her nephew). I can only imagine how ridiculous I looked doing these exercises at 39 weeks and 4 days pregnant.

Wednesday morning I woke up and knew that all of our hard work from the day/night before had started something because I had contractions all day long. Jessica had a makeup consultation (Mother's Day Gift from Dano) that we went to and afterwards we headed to the mall to do a little shopping. I had been timing my contractions as they had been about every 10-15 minute, so nothing to get all panicky about. Once we got home I called the doctor to schedule an appointment for the next day to get checked and see what was going on. Being my first pregnancy I assumed I was having contractions, but wasn't 100% sure.

That evening we had dinner on the patio and decided to take a family walk afterwards. Well that was when the contractions REALLY started to kick in. All I remember was Sven was walking Gunnar, Jessica was pushing Harlow in the stroller and Mabry was talking my ear off and I could barely keep up or pay attention to what Mabry was saying. I laid on the couch for a little when we got home and the contractions seemed to slow down some. So we continued to hangout for the evening and at about 10:30 the contractions started to become more painful and about 3/4 minutes apart. My sister said she knew it was time for me to go to the hospital when I came downstairs crying during a contraction (Sven was in the shower). I made the call to the midwife letting them know we were coming in. Sven and I grabbed what we needed to and were headed off to the hospital at about 11:30pm.
